Win big with Pig & Pilgrim
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Pig & Pilgrim, every ticket purchased for the festival enters you into a drawing to win a sensational $5,000 Parrilla Grill Barbecue with all the trimmings, including a pizza oven. Pig & Pilgrim is renowned for crafting artisan charcoal barbecues, with founder Charlie’s passion for building and designing grills from scratch. The P1, a stand-alone Argentinean-style Santa Maria Parrilla Grill, is handmade by Charlie and could soon be yours with just a festival ticket.
Meet the legendary smokers and brewers
At the festival, you’ll have the chance to meet the formidable champions of KVBBQ: Andrew and Illinka, the husband-and-wife team behind Black Iron Smokers & BBQ. Their legendary 1150-gallon, hand-built Texas-style offset smoker named Jimmie is sure to impress both enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
Equally exciting are the brewers from Merino Brewery, Macarthur’s largest all-grain brewery. Led by two ex-military guys with a passion for beer and an iconic sheep, their locally crafted beers promise to tantalise your taste buds and complement the delicious barbecue spread.
Behind the scenes with Pig & Pilgrim’s founder, Charlie
Pig & Pilgrim, a rising star in the world of charcoal barbecues, was born out of Charlie’s love for cooking over coals. A young and dynamic business, Charlie’s journey began during the pandemic when he built a barbecue for himself. His craftsmanship and the unique features of his grills quickly caught people’s attention, leading to the birth of Pig & Pilgrim.
Despite starting as a side project, Pig & Pilgrim soon grew exponentially, with orders pouring in. Charlie decided to dedicate himself entirely to the business, and with the support of his partner, Elise, they now reside in the Southern Highlands, where the factory and workshop are located.
The charm of cooking over coals
Charlie dispels the notion that cooking over coals is laborious, emphasising that it’s straightforward and rewarding. He believes that cooking this way allows for a deeper connection to the food, its preparation, and the final flavours achieved. Slow cooking over coals creates unparalleled taste and texture that cannot be replicated with gas or wood.
