Bowls

Men’s bowls

Due to a hiccup in the reporting process, only a limited number of results were to hand at the time of writing this report. I will endeavour to catch up on the missing results in the next issue. Also, the photo of Brad and Steve Kellett and Bill and ‘Jingles’ Chittick was to appear in the last edition but was not included due to a lack of space.

Championships

The Final of the Challenge Singles handicapped event, in which players are given a starting score according to their level of experience and expertise, was played between Ron Nelson (5) and Rob Folkard (0) on 27 June. The match was tight until well after the halfway mark; thereafter I found some rhythm to eventually take the match by 25 points to 13.

The Final of the Challenge Pairs competition, in which the combined handicap scores of each player in a team is added together, was played between the father and son team of Brad and Steve Kellett and the team of Ron Nelson and James McKinley. After commencing with a 6 point start, Steve and Brad had to fight all the way to take the match with a final score of 23 points to 20. Congratulations to Steve and Brad on becoming the first father and son team to win a Club competition. Also, special congratulations to Ron Nelson on being the runner-up in both the Challenge Singles and Challenge Pairs events. Well done Ron!

With the Bowls Calendar now running in the financial year rather than the calendar year, the Berry Bowling Club presentation night will be held on 22 July and all of the Championship events will recommence shortly thereafter. I look forward to reporting on the presentation night in the next edition and the upcoming Championships as they occur.
