Arts Muster – “Let’s Make Things Together”

Arts and crafts workshops

Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August 2023, 10am-4pm

Huskisson, Jervis Bay, NSW

Beat the winter blues and boost your wellbeing at Arts Muster’s weekend of arts and crafts workshops, artisans markets and Aboriginal cultural workshops in Huskisson on 19-20 August, 10am-4pm.

Choose from nine different creative workshops, including papier maché animals, artist’s books, indigo dyeing, string making and coiling, paper sculptures and more. Our tutors are incredible artists from the Shoalhaven, Illawarra and Southern Tablelands.

Local First Nations cultural group Gadhungal Murring is teaming up with artist Silvana Benacchio for an extra-special two-day class. It starts with a cultural workshop on the grounds of the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum on Saturday morning, where students will gather inspiration to take back into the classroom. Then they will translate their experiences into their own unique artworks, in the form of ‘walking books’.

Illawarra artist Kathryn Orton will help you imagine and design your own menagerie of creatures, then create them in papier maché. Shoalhaven sculptor and ‘Sculptures by the Sea’ veteran, Akira Kamada, will show you how to think in 3D using planes and string.

Arts Muster organiser and Jervis Bay local artist, Samantha Tannous, is teaching indigo dyeing and shibori (Japanese tie-dye) techniques over the two-day event. Participants can choose from a range of fabrics and papers to dip into the dye pots and create beautiful patterns and designs.

Samantha said “Everyone can be creative! Our workshops are for anyone who wants to try something new or make something special.”

The venues for workshops include the historic classrooms in the grounds of the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, and the adjacent Huskisson Community Hall and Huskisson Public School.

Choose from one day or two day workshops; most offer materials kits.

Cost from $145.
