Championships

The final of the Men’s Pairs Championship was played on 19 April between the Chittick brothers, Bill and ‘Jingles’, and Nathan Bezant and Terry Hayes. Despite getting off to a slow start, Bill and Jingles fought back to draw level at the half way mark and stayed in close contention for most of the match. Unfortunately, Nathan and Terry kicked away in the last few ends to take the match by 6 points. Congratulations to Bill and Jingles on becoming the Runners Up in the 2023 Men’s Pairs Championship.

The first round of the Mixed Pairs competition took place on 9 May. Irene and Bob Dunn played a keenly contested match against Col Agar and Jane Haddon. Bob and Irene held an early lead and remained in close contact until the 16th end when Col and Jane hit their straps to eventually take the match 23 points to 16.

Due to the bye, Rob and Deb Folkard played in the second round against Gillian Portener and Terry Bezant on 18 May. We got out to an early lead, being up by 13 points to 3 on the eighth end. Thereafter Terry and Gillian steadily reined us in, winning nine of the last 12 ends to take the match by 24 points to 18. Congratulations to Terry and Gillian on winning the match and earning a place in the final next week against Terry and Margaret Hayes. Good luck in the Final.
