Kangaroo Valley VIEW Club is enjoying returning to a normal world after COVID-19 interruptions to our luncheon meetings. Once again we can meet regularly together on the second Friday of every month at The Friendly Inn.
In February we held our AGM. Heather Isemonger has been elected to be our President. Gayle Rudd and Deb Folkard have continued in their previous positions of Secretary and Treasurer. Jenni Mackaway, Irene Dunn, Tania Roach and Jeannette Dumbrell form the rest of the committee.
Unfortunately our speaker could not come to our lunch. We enjoyed the pub food and the present company as it still feels a bit of novelty to meet freely.
We also celebrated the birthday of one of our original members. Norma Norris has been a member of Kangaroo VIEW Club for 30 years. She joined our club in the second year of its operation. She celebrated her 97th birthday on 19 April. Norma is two days older than the late Queen, who would have turned 97 on 21 April. Norma grew up in Eastwood in Sydney and went to Hornsby Girls High School. She married and moved to acreage in West Pennant Hills in Sydney, which was semi-rural at the time. She has four children, two of whom are now retired. She has just passed her latest driving test. She has good health for her age and still lives without much outside help in the home she and her husband Ian purchased on Kangaroo Valley Road in 1980. After buying 7½ acres with a small house it took them until 1983 to become permanent residents after renovating and enlarging the home to fit their family. Ian passed away a while ago. Norma has made a beautiful garden on her property. She says when they first came she knew many of her neighbours but now she hardly knows anyone.
We also send birthday wishes to one of our founding members, Betty Allan, a former valley resident now living in Sydney who celebrated her 101st birthday on 15 April.
Our next VIEW Club lunch meeting will be at the Friendly Inn (the pub) on 12 May at 11.30am-12 noon. The speaker will be Janis Gordon. Her subject is Disaster Recovery.

VIEW (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) is a leading women’s organisation with close to 300 clubs across Australia, all dedicated to supporting children in need with their education through The Smith Family.
