Boyley Cup

What a fabulous community we have here in KV. Thank you for turning out for the Boyley Cup on the last night of February. The Cup honours the life of one of our most outstanding community members – remembering Ian Boyle for the inspirational friend and mentor that he was to so many.

His humbling spirit was one which focussed on family, community and education – always encouraging those around him to be the best version of themselves. The KV Swim Cup strives to mirror this philosophy, by creating a level playing field for all to put their best foot forward and enjoy.

Ultimately, the KV Cup is a celebration of community, where inclusiveness and giving are paramount, where everyone is given a fair go regardless of age or ability. Ian’s life philosophy was just that, inclusion, encouragement and collaboration through teamwork”

“Inch by inch life’s a cinch, yard by yard life is hard”.

Thank you to the Boyle family for the much sought-after winner’s towels.

A great team of helpers made this a seamless evening. The Lions Club have always been in support of this night, assisting with the organisation, ensuring the lights come on as required and the traditional sausage sizzle. Thanks also to the weather ‘gods’ for fabulous weather both on the night and in the lead-up.

Congratulations to all the competitors for outstanding swimming and enthusiasm! Keep up the swim fitness for next year’s event, 27 February 2024. The Boyley Cup rules favour consistency throughout the night, but the outstanding swim of the evening goes to the ‘Ancient Neptunes’, who bettered their time by seven seconds to touch first in the Final, a team of 10 and under, and that was their sixth swim of the night. Amazing what enthusiasm and encouragement can achieve.

Thank you to all our sponsors, and welcome to the KV Voice for their $500 contribution, which presented as fabulous prizes throughout the night, mainly vouchers for KV businesses. In every one of our 17 years KV Electrical has sponsored the fastest team, and this year the $100 went to ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ and The Heavens Mountain Escape sponsor the Oldest Team, also the winners on the night, ‘Grey Matter’, and the youngest team ‘The Swimming Nuggets’, a team of 6-8 year olds. The ever-present ‘Budgie Smugglers’ were beaten into second place and the ‘Kanga Roosters’ took out third prize.

See you all next year!

Alison Baker
