School Update

Kangaroo Valley Public School

I would like to thank the community for supporting our school, particularly in the lead up to our 150th Celebrations. Term 2 has been quite a busy term for our students and staff with lots of special events occurring and many events planned for the remainder of the year. If you would like to stay up-to-date with what is happening in our school, please follow us on Facebook or access our Newsletter on our school website.

150th Celebrations

Our 150th Celebrations will be held at Kangaroo Valley Public School on Saturday 3 September. We invite all members of the community to come along to be part of the day, with a great celebration planned with games, BBQ, cakes, old KVPS memorabilia, face-painting, speeches and more!

We are looking to borrow old school items, including but not limited to old school uniforms, awards, furniture, and photos. We are especially looking for candid pics and any era is welcome – current included! Pictures can be emailed to our P&C President Trudie on the details below, and other items can be dropped off to Mrs Barton at the school reception. Please make sure these are clearly labelled so we can return them later. Please contact Trudie on 0437 878 343 or via trudiecraig@gmail.com if you can help.

Education Week

During Education Week, we will have a Book Fair on Wednesday 3 August for students to purchase a book to take home, or community members may wish to purchase a book from the fair to be donated to the school library for our students to borrow for many years to come.

Book Week street parade

As part of Book Week, KVPS will be organising a Book Week Character Street Parade from 9.30am on Tuesday 23 August. We invite parents, grandparents and community members to line the main street to see our costumes as we parade, departing the school in front of the shopfronts.

Shoalhaven mobile library visits

Our students love it when the Shoalhaven Mobile Library visits our school to borrow books for their classroom.

Tennis team

The KVPS Tennis team competed against Milton PS in the quarter finals. It was a windy but enjoyable day of tennis. Colbie and Samson won their mixed doubles. Thank you Kate Hole for coaching Samson, Luke, Annabelle and Elsie. Thank you Matilda and Colbie for stepping in for Annabelle and Elsie who unfortunately were unable to play on the day.

Dairy farm visit

Our 1/2 class have been learning about the ‘paddock to plate’ process, and recently visited Lisa and Graeme Cochrane to learn with a hands-on experience with a day on a dairy farm. Students were able to observe the cows being milked, taste the milk and get up close with some calves. Students also enjoyed a competition to select the best cob of corn, followed by a play in a maze. Students left with a bag full of goodies to take home, so we would like to thank the sponsors of the day and Lisa and Graeme for organising such a great learning experience for our students. It’s safe to say our students know where milk comes from!

What’s happening in art?

Our students have been making food-themed art. Year 1/2 students looked at the mouth-watering paintings of Wayne Thiebaud. The students created a colourful background and then painted their own delicious Wayne Thiebaud style cupcakes.

Mufti day

On the last day of Term 2, our school leaders planned a mufti day and BBQ to raise funds to purchase an end-of-year gift for the school from our Year 6 students. Despite the wet weather, students enjoyed an afternoon of fun activities and raised close to $500.

Enrolments for kindergarten 2023

It’s that time already to be looking ahead into 2023, and enrolments for kindergarten are open! If you are seeking a placement for your child, use the KVPS website “Enrolment” to enrol your child.

If your child attends KVPS or you have enrolled on line, a Prospectus and Information Package will be sent to you at the commencement of Term 4.

If you know of anyone who resides within our local zone and is not currently connected to our school, please encourage them to contact us.

Crossing supervisor

We are still looking for a School Crossing Supervisor! While the crossing has been very quiet for some time, traffic will start to increase again and we would love someone in the community to help keep our students safe as they arrive and depart each day. If you are interested in the position please contact Sandhini Chaudhary via email sandhini.chadhary@transport.nsw.gov.au or phone 0466 343 704.

Current fundraising goals

Our hardworking P&C group are currently working on fundraising to support our outdoor learning space upgrade and the purchasing of new home readers and guided reading materials. If you think you can help with our fundraising efforts, please contact me via email: jennifer.arnott3@det.nsw.edu.au.

I hope you can join us at the school on Saturday 3 September for our 150th Celebration.
