Resilient KV

About

Kangaroo Valley Community Association For Disaster Resilience Inc. (KVCADR), otherwise known as Resilient KV, was registered as an incorporated association in New South Wales under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 in May 2023.

What is Resilient KV?

Our aim is to support the Kangaroo Valley community to be more aware of, better prepared for, and more resilient to bushfires and other disasters and emergencies, including floods, landslides, storms, extreme weather events and pandemics – and their impacts on people, their animals, and the Valley’s flora and fauna.

We hope to increase disaster resilience through activities that include prevention, preparation, response and recovery. Some examples of activities include: continuing support provided to the network of neighbourhood groups; mapping of local assets and resources in KV that are relevant to disaster resilience; knowledge sharing; liaison with key agencies and organisations; etc.

We also acknowledge and offer our thanks to the countless volunteers and professionals who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe in the face of bushfires and other disasters.  We particularly thank members of our Kangaroo Valley and Beaumont Volunteer Rural Fire Brigades, SES volunteers and other contributing organisations, businesses and individuals within our KV community.

Who is involved?

Involvement in Resilient KV is open to all members of the Kangaroo Valley community. The more members we have, the better connected our community will be, and the better will be our opportunity to seek funding and other resources.

Our grassroots committee is made up of interested people aiming to build on the groundwork laid by previous successful initiatives such as the Kangaroo Valley Bushfire-Ready Neighbourhood Groups, the KV Community Bushfire Committee, and, following the Currowan Fire of 2019/20, the establishment of the KV 'Drop In' Bushfire Recovery Centre and the Kangaroo Valley Wildlife Initiative.

Acknowledgement of Country
Resilient KV acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live.  Their sovereignty was never ceded and this always was, always will be Aboriginal land. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, recognizing their ancient connection to this land and their enduring role in caring for it. We acknowledge the strength and resilience of First Nations peoples. We have much to learn from their wisdom, passed down through generations, that enable their community, culture and Country to continue to endure and thrive.
