For a basic Cob Loaf
You will need
1 Cob Loaf.
How to make it
- Cut open the top of the cob loaf to make a lid.
- Pull out the bread from inside the loaf and store in an airtight container.
- Add filling – see comments below for filling suggestions.
- Cover loaf completely with foil.
- Bake at 180C for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and stir.
- Bake, uncovered, for a further 20 minutes.
- Serve immediately with the reserved bread pieces.
There are so many options for your filling, apart from the traditional (iconic?) spinach, cheese and a packet of French onion soup. One of the key ingredients to a great Cob Loaf is always cheese – be it a melting cheddar, a biting blue or cream cheese.
Savoury suggestions
For a snack, look at artichoke and spinach, baked brie and cranberry sauce, or chilli smoked salmon, or keep it simple with a cheese and bacon filling.
You could turn any of your favourite meals into a Cob Loaf recipe. Why not give these a try: Lasagne Soup Cob, Pan Pizza or Cheeseburger Cob, or go Mexican with a Chilli Con Queso Cob?

What is more Australian than Fairy Bread Cob Loaf? You could also try a Hot Chocolate Mousse or Berry Ripple Cheesecake Cob – Yum!
