Fig Community Garden

Once again a big thank you to our community for its great support of our Community Garden.

Its been a very busy couple of months since we last posted, with weekly sausage sizzles at The Friendly Inn on Thursday nights from 5.30 t 7pm, Mothers Day raffles, Easter raffles and finally – minus the rain – our monthly market held on the first Sunday of the month behind the Friendly Inn.

The support from our community and visitors has been nothing short of exceptional, enabling us to move forward with our plans to give the garden a facelift with the purchase of some more raised garden beds as well as the building of an enclosed garden area. We are currently in the process of ordering building materials and, moving forward, will be looking to hold a working bee once again, complete with refreshments and a sausage sizzle with a call out for strong and trusty volunteers on our Community Garden Facebook page; or, if you are willing to lend a hand, you can contact us by email to figcommunitygarden@gmail.com. We are always on the lookout for able-bodied people to help with the heavy handling.

We are happy to say that drainage in the garden has improved enormously, with the implementation of the raised garden beds, and winter planting of asian greens, beetroot, herbs, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages and shallots has been started.

Happy to say, our recent Mothers Day raffle was a huge success with generous donations from local businesses and stall holders as well as FIG members. A huge thank you for the generosity of Maddison’s, Hampton Deli, The General Store,

Village Green Nursery, Nostalgia Factory, The Hive, Valley Vintage, and This is Living for donating beautiful products and gift vouchers

A special thanks to our own Anni Tildsley for co ordinating three beautifully presented baskets full of lovely goodies kindly donated by this very generous community

The winners of our raffle, valued at over $1000, were:

1st Annette Robey

2nd Frank Barker

3rd Dale Anderson.

Congratulations to the winners, with this being a prize many wanted to win.

Our AGM will be held in July with a date TBA .

We welcome any new members and can be contacted via the email link above or on Thursdays at the community garden between 9.30 and 11.30am.

All are welcome, even if for a chat and cuppa.

on behalf of the FIG Committee
