The Ladies fours competition began on 31 January. Starting with Gillian Portener’s team drawn to play against my team. It was a very hot day but that did not slow down Gillian’s team which went on to ensure their position in the final with a convincing win. Congratulations Gillian – you could do no wrong and led your team by example with an impressive display of bowls. After a week’s break for the District fours Gillian’s team, made up of Ruth Willdig, lead, Enid Hall, second and Cathy Cole-Clark, as third, sadly met their match against Jane Haddon, Skip, Marie Russell, lead, Sue Sheil, second and Maya McGrath as third. Congratulations to Jane’s team on a well-deserved win.
On 7 March we began the Major/Minor Pairs. I played with Chris Yeo against Maya McGrath and Marie Russell. Chris and I tried our best and, even though we led for the first six ends and fought back on the 13th end (nothing to do with the number of the end I hope!), we let it slip on the last four ends to go down by two.
The other game in the first round was between the teams of Margaret Street and Enid Hall as Skip and Cathy Cole-Clark and Jane Haddon, Skip. Jane was too strong on the day taking the match 21 to 14. The Final was set for 14 March, but of course it rained! I therefore look forward to completing the reporting of this competition in the next Voice. Good luck to both teams.
