Ladies’ bowls
Only a small report this time as not much has happened since the Christmas break. We officially returned to bowls on 10 January to a quiet start.
Next on the bowls calendar is the Ladies Fours competition and then the Open Pennant season. The Open Pennant is a new concept being a mixed format. A few of the ladies are looking forward to testing their bowling skills with the men in an opportunity to travel to other clubs representing the Berry Bowling Club. I look forward to reporting on these matches in the next issue.

Men’s bowls
Due to the Christmas/New Year break, this report is somewhat patchy and covers the period from 9 November to present.
Championships
On 9 November the final of the Mixed Fours Competition was held between Bernice Dobson, Peter Haddon, Enid Hall and Mark Power against Marge Wilkie, Col Agar, Jane Haddon and David Badger. With the match drawn at 16 all an extra end was needed to decide the outcome. I am very pleased to report that Marge Wilkie’s team were the eventual winners. Congratulations Marge.
The Club Singles Championship continued on 12 November with a very hard-fought game between Adam Rigney and Bill Chittick. Bill was leading by 15 points to 12 until the 15th end when Adam came to the fore, scoring 13 points in the last 6 ends to take the match 25 points to 16.
The final of the 2022/23 Club Singles was held on 10 December between David Badger and Adam Rigney. It was no surprise that this match was a real nail-biter which went right down to the wire. Adam eventually took the victory by 1 point to prove beyond any doubt that he is once again the Berry Men’s Singles Champion. Congratulations Adam on another great achievement.
Zone Fours Championships
On 7 January 2023 Keith Pepper, Bob Dunn, Graeme Hook and Rob Folkard competed in the President’s Reserve Fours’ championship, defeating a Culburra team in the Quarter Final with a score of 25 points to 20. In the semi -final they defeated a team from Shoalhaven Heads by 28 points to 13 to progress to the final. The final against Huskisson was tied at 14 all after 21 ends, thereby necessitating another end. With my last bowl I managed to regain ‘the shot’; however it wasn’t to be as Huskisson’s Skipper hit the jack with the last bowl of the match and carried it back to one of his team’s bowls for a one point victory over Berry.
In the ‘Senior Fours’ “Jingles” Chittick, “Tige” Lidbetter, David Badger and Terry Hayes defeated Culburra by 22 points to 11 in the quarter-final. In the semi -final they defeated another Culburra team by 29 points to 16, but went down to another Culburra team in the final.
The ‘Open Fours’ team consisting of Mark Power, Nathan Bezant, Paul Bezant and Adam Rigney defeated Nowra by 25 points to 18 in the semi-final, but went down to Huskisson by 17 points to 19 in the final.
Congratulations to all three Berry teams for making their respective finals.
Social bowls
9 November 2022 – Rob Reid, Ron Nelson and Bill Chittick defeated Col Good, Keith Pepper and Rob Folkard 26 points to 11. Lindsay McNamara and Tige Lidbetter defeated Deb Folkard and Terry Hayes 22 points to 19.
16 November 2022 – Jingles Chittick and Lindsay McNamara defeated George Waddell and Terry Hayes 19 points to 11. Keith Pepper, Laurie Watson and Bill Chittick defeated Darryl Goodger, Ron Nelson and Tom Froggatt 21 points to 18.
23 November 2022 – Bob Dunn and Peter Haddon defeated Keith Pepper and Lindsay McNamara 24 points to 19. Darryl Goodger, Steve Kellett and Bill Chittick defeated Col Good Ron Nelson and Jingles Chittick 23 points to 18.
21 December 2022 – Terry Hayes and Bob Dunn defeated Tige Lidbetter and Lindsay McNamara 24 points to 15. Ron Nelson and Bill Chittick defeated Derek Raymond and Steve Kellett 30 points to 22.
24 December 2022 – In a game of ‘cut-throat’ David Badger scored 10 points, Lindsay McNamara scored 10 and Jingles Chittick scored 9.
31 December 2022 – Annette Tisdell and Bob Dunn defeated Irene Dunn and Lindsay McNamara 24 points to 15.
4 January 2023 – Annette Tisdell and Bill Chittick defeated Keith Pepper and Bob Dunn 17 points to 10. Derek Raymond and Rob Folkard defeated Ron Nelson and Lindsay McNamara 19 points to 15. Nathan Bezant, Terry Bezant, Paul Bezant and Adam Rigney defeated Jingles Chittick, David Badger, Tige Lidbetter and Terry Hayes by an undisclosed margin.
11 January 2023 – Derek Raymond and Jingles Chittick defeated Darryl Goodger and Bob Dunn 26 points to 21. Terry Bezant and Lindsay McNamara defeated Laurie Watson and Tige Lidbetter 22 points to 20. Ron Nelson and David Badger defeated Peter Haddon and Bill Chittick 22 points to 19.
