Firey Tales

Only one call out for the month of August, with a smoke sighting investigated by the brigade and found to be a false alarm.

Members are continuing with Advanced Firefighter Training as well as trials for Village Firefighter and BAO.

BAO is an acronym for Breathing Apparatus Operator. Members qualified in this certificate can wear the RFS-issued breathing apparatus to use at structure and car fires. With the toxic environment created by these incidents, it is a welcome piece of equipment to prevent smoke inhalation and exposure to smoke and chemicals.

New fire danger ratings are being rolled out by the RFS and NSW state government. This will simplify the ratings from six conditions to four. Please see article in this issue of the Voice.

A reminder that fire permits will be required as of 1 September in the Shoalhaven area. Please contact the brigade permit officers for assistance.

Get Ready Weekend

The RFS Get Ready Weekend will be held at the Friendly Inn Farmers Market on Sunday 11 September.

Please drop in and say hello. We will be available to answer questions and offer advice for protecting your house and property from bushfire. With a wet summer forecast, it is still important to be fire-wise and to get your property ready for the fire season.
