Women’s bowls
After such a busy August we needed some quiet time. Therefore, I only have the first match of the Club Fours to report on. As I mentioned in the last edition of the Voice, the Club Fours is being played as a round robin as there were only three teams entered. They were, from Lead to Skip: Bernice Dobson, Sue Sheil, Irene Dunn, Jane Haddon; then Enid Hall, Christine Yeo, Maya McGrath, Deb Folkard: and Marjorie Wilkie, Ruth Willdig, Judy Whitton and Anna Stewart.
The first match held on Tuesday 12 September resulted in a victory to Jane Haddon’s team against my team, by 26 to 14. My team had a few opportunities in the latter stages to bring about a miracle turn around but it wasn’t to be. Our only hope is that, because it is a round robin, we were not knocked out of the competition, yet. We live to fight another day! Congratulations to Jane’s team who played extremely well and will now contest for the major prize on Tuesday 19 September against Anna Stewart’s team. Good luck everyone!
Our Grange Triples Shield tournament, kindly sponsored by the ‘Grange at Berry’ retirement village, will be held on Friday 13 October. Teams from Bomaderry, Culburra, Dapto Citizens, Figtree Sports, Huskisson, Lake Conjola, Milton-Ulladulla, Nowra, St George’s Basin, Sussex Inlet RSL and Warilla will compete, vying for the fabulous prize money on offer. Place getters could take home $525 for first, $375 for second, $22 for third, $150 for fourth and $90 per team for the AM and PM winners. I will look forward to reporting on this major event in our bowls calendar next month. Until then happy bowling!

Pennants
The Pennant Game against Greenwell Point on 20 August did not go to plan, with Berry losing both games. Berry scored a total of 33 points to Greenwell Point’s 57 points, resulting in the five available competition points being awarded to Greenwell Point.
The final Pennant Game against Sussex Inlet RSL was held at Berry on 26 August. Berry won both games convincingly and earned all five available competition points; however this was too little too late and Berry finished fourth in the six-team competition.
Zone Championships
The Area A Men’s State Triples and Open Reserve Triples were contested at Berry on 16 and 17 September. Mark Power, ‘Tige’ Lidbetter and Nathan Bezant competed in the Men’s State Triples but were bundled out in the first round, going down to a team from Culburra by 30 points to 17.
In the Open Reserve Triples Bob Dunn, Grahame Hooke and Rob Folkard won their first game against a team from Worrigee by 27 points to 21 to progress to the second round. A similar result in the second game against Shoalhaven Heads earned them a place in the final by winning by 26 points to 22.
The Final, played on 17 September, was a very tight match against another team from Worrigee. Bob and Grahame both played very well throughout to keep us in the match and, despite an exceptional final end, we eventually lost the match by 24 points to 23.
Social bowls
17 August – Darryl Goodger and Steve Kellett defeated Ron Nelson and Bill Chittick by 28 points to 18. Bob Burney and ‘Jingles’ Chittick defeated Keith Pepper and Tom Froggatt by 24 points to 14. Derek Raymond and Rob Folkard defeated Bob Dunn and Terry Hayes by 19 points to 17.
23 August – Bob Burney, Tom Froggatt and Steve Kellett defeated Ron Nelson, Keith Pepper and Rob Folkard by 18 points to 15. Derek Raymond and Terry Hayes defeated Bob Dunn and Peter Heffernan by 18 points to 15.
30 August – Derek Raymond and Mark Power defeated Ron Nelson and Rob Folkard by 23 points to 7 (ouch!). Keith Pepper, Laurie Watson and Tom Froggatt defeated Bob Burney, Daryl Goodger and Bob Dunn by 15 points to 12.
2 September – Derek Raymond, Bob Dunn and Nathan Bezant defeated Steve Kellett, Lindsay McNamara and Mark Power by 17 points to 11.
6 September – Deb Folkard and Laurie Watson defeated Bill Chittick and Lindsay McNamara by 34 points to 19. Ron Nelson and Peter Heffernan defeated Derek Raymond and Rob Folkard by 35 points to 31.
9 September – Derek Raymond, Bob Dunn and Lindsay McNamara defeated Margaret Hayes, Irene Dunn and Deb Folkard by 14 points to 13.
