Hampden Bridge – It’s time to clean up!

In the December issue of the Voice, we said we would be contacting Transport for NSW regarding the desire to get the Hampden Bridge cleaned. Well, we did that and they have responded in a very positive manner:

“Transport for NSW (Transport) is currently investigating the most appropriate course of action to clean the sandstone on the bridge. Given the heritage aspect of the bridge, consideration needs to be given to the materials and processes used to ensure the cleaning process does not cause damage to the sandstone. At this stage we do not have a timeframe for completion of the cleaning, however Transport anticipates it will be in the first half of this year, access and weather permitting. Please also be aware that cleaning of the towers of the bridge will require the bridge to be closed while cleaning is being carried out, however we will try to minimise disruption to the community as much as possible by scheduling these works at night. Transport will keep the community informed of any traffic changes.”

So by the time winter comes around, we should have a lovely honey-coloured sandstone bridge that gives the impression that is it being looked after because we love it (and we do!).

We also approached Transport for NSW about enhanced lighting for the bridge but there are currently no plans for that other than the recently repaired spotlights. We will continue discussing this with them and let you know of any developments.

If you want to stay informed of what is happening in your community, make sure you are on our mailing list – send your details (including property address, contact number and email address) to kvccb@kangaroovalley.nsw.au. Our next General Meeting is Tuesday 28 March 2023 at 6:30pm in the Kangaroo Valley Hall.
