Championships
In my last report I included a photo of the 2022 Club Singles Champion, Adam Rigney. The caption on the photo read “Winner of the Berry Major Singles Championship Final 2020” (which of course Adam also won) rather than 2022. My apologies for this error.
With the bowls year changing from Calendar Year to Financial Year, the 2022/23 Club Singles Championship has commenced. In the first round ‘Jingles’ Chittick went down to Paul Bezant 25 points to eight and Ron Nelson was beaten by Mark Power by 25 points to nine. Defending Champion Adam Rigney was the eventual winner against Rick Attard in a very tight game that finished at 25 to 21. The other 2022 finalist Nathan Bezant was victorious over Rob Folkard in a tight game that ended at 25 points to 19. Bill Chittick progressed to the second round due to a forfeit by ‘Tige’ Lidbetter.
The Mixed Fours competition commenced on 27 October with the team of Marjorie Wilkie, Col Agar, Jane Haddon and David Badger defeating Margaret Hayes, Col Good, Deb Folkard and Terry Hayes by 22 points to 11. In the other match Bernice Dobson, Peter Haddon, Enid Hall and Mark Power were victorious over Heather Sheppard, Keith Pepper, Gillian Portener and Jingles Chittick (substitute for Rob Folkard) with a score of 19 points to 15.
Pennants
In the final game of the Pennants competition, between Berry and Nowra 2’s, Kangaroo Valley was represented by Bob Dunn, Jingles Chittick and Tige Lidbetter. Berry won two of the three matches, but lost the other match by such a margin that the overall scoreboard was drawn. This resulted in 5.5 points going to Berry and 4.5 points going to Nowra. Well done team! A great way to finish the competition.
Social Bowls
12 October – Peter Haddon, G. Clarke and Bob Dunn defeated Derek Raymond, Col Agar and Laurie Watson 26 to 17. Jingles Chittick and Ron Nelson defeated Keith Pepper and Bill Chittick 37 to 13. Tige Lidbetter and Terry Hayes defeated Peter Berg and Mark Power 21 to 15.
19 October – Peter Haddon, Keith Pepper and Tige Lidbetter defeated Derek Raymond, Steve Kellett and David Badger 27 to 11. Lindsay McNamara and Terry Hayes defeated Bob Dunn and Mark Power 23 to 11.
22 October – Ron Nelson, Col Agar and Terry Hayes defeated Derek Raymond, Steve Kellett and David Badger 27 to 11.
26 October – Col Agar and Terry Hayes, with Derek Raymond as a swinging second, defeated Jingles Chittick and David Badger 20 to 11.
2 November – Peter Haddon and Tige Lidbetter defeated Darryl Goodger and Mark Power 23 to 19. Derek Raymond and Bill Chittick defeated Ron Nelson and Lindsay McNamara 26 to 20.
Finally, the recent sudden and unexpected illness of Bob Dunn has resulted in his absence from bowls for the passed few weeks. I understand that Bob is recovering well and all of his friends at the Berry Bowling Club wish him a continued recovery and a speedy return to the bowling greens.
