The children have been singing and dramatising favourite nursery rhymes.

They have jumped over candle sticks, helped Incy Wincy climb up his water spout and taken turns to bump green bottles off the wall. Humpty Dumpty has had some adventures on his wall too!

Engaging with rhymes and songs helps children develop literacy skills. They learn new words and practise pronouncing them. They experiment with rhyme and rhythm and remember sequences. Children look at the written versions of the rhymes and relate that to their spoken words. They also get creative and invent their own versions. Never underestimate the value of the ‘simple’ nursery rhyme.

The children were keen to see what would happen if we froze bottles of water. Bottles were collected and were filled with different levels of coloured water – one even had pom-poms floating in it. What happened? The children were so interested in watching the melting process the bottles had to be re-frozen and melted over and over again.
