To clean or not to clean?

The question of tourism, history and community

Did you know that a public holiday was declared in Kangaroo Valley for the bridge opening on Thursday 19 May 1898? Our iconic bridge was added to the NSW Heritage Register on 2 August 2019. It is so important to our community that it features, in many incarnations, in the logos for The Kangaroo Valley Show, The Kangaroo Valley Voice and The Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival. There is no denying the appeal to tourists; imagine how many photos have been taken of the bridge over the years.

In recent times, the KVCCB has been working with Transport for NSW and Endeavour Energy to restore the lighting on the sandstone towers. This has highlighted the current condition of the bridge and raised questions as to whether we are seeing this amazing asset in its best light.

The KVCCB would like to gauge community interest and opinion in enhancing the look of the bridge, with a view to encouraging even more photos to be taken and increasing its tourist appeal. To this end, we have developed a short online survey that we would like as many in the community to complete as possible – it is your chance to have your say. The survey will take less than five minutes to complete, so it’s pretty easy – just click on this link!

We will present the results of the survey in a future issue of The Voice and also on the Community Facebook page.

If you want to be added to the KVCCB mailing list, please send your details (including property address, contact number and email address) to kvccb@kangaroovalley.nsw.au and we will ensure you are added. Our next General Meeting is Tuesday 29 November 2022 at 6:30pm in the Kangaroo Valley Hall.
