Pig Racing at the KV BBQ Festival

Off and racing…

Pig Day Out is back on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September in the Beer Garden of The Friendly Inn, along with the Kangaroo Valley Craft Beer & BBQ Festival.

So if you are BOARed, need to SOW some wild oats, or SQUEAL your lungs out and want to HOG the limelight, get on down to the centre of the village and join the crowd at a PORKER of an event.

Everyone is welcome – the stout-bodied, short-legged, thick skinned, partially coated, even those with short bristles.

Pigs are known for their wonderful sense of direction, and now they get the chance to prove it. Over two fun-filled days, Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs will be put through their paces, and you can take a chance on having yourself a share of the winning pig.

Funds raised will be donated to the Melanoma Institute Australia and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, along with the Bomaderry Junior Australian Football Club and the Kangaroo Valley Show, which will both be corralling the eager participants and audience alike.

Prior to each race, an auction will be held and you can bid on your pick of the winning pig. A raffle is also held for each race, so everyone has a chance to be a winner. Make sure you check the Form Guide so you are in fine fettle for a higglety, PIGLETty good time.

Saturday 17 September

Race Times

11.30am: K.V. Red Angus Stakes

12.30pm: Jilliby Station Dash

1.30pm:   Jumping Jelly Beans Sprint

2.30pm:   Alliance Gift

3.30pm:   Shoalhaven Brick and Tile Pork Medallion

5.00pm:   The Melanoma Research Cup, sponsored by Bomaderry JAFL, The Friendly Inn and KV Show.

Form Guide

KV Olives (Green): A cute little maiden, from strong European background, nice set of trotters which should be put to good use. Keep an eye on her!

The Lord (Light Blue): “The Lord’, King of KV Keno. Will give it his best shot and run away with all the winnings!

Surf Electrical (Pink): Sparks will fly when this pig rides a wave of support in the home straight. It’s wired for success!

Hooch (Gold): Introducing the triple threat pork chop, he is hunky, he is horny, he is “Hooch the Pig”!

Poaka Still (Dark Blue): First Kiwi to run, be a bit tougher than the rugby, but “Still Building” up. Great to have the local Kiwi’s support. Give him a go!

Chippy Pete Thomas Building (Purple): Benny’s love child, the Bucking Bronco can do anything, no job too big or small, a real legend in his own lunch time! The Broncos connection might let him down, although having a great year under a new trainer.

Smack (Silver): Smack this pig does whatever smack the pig does. Can he swing from a web? No he can’t cause he’s a pig. Look out, he is Smack the Pig!

PJW Carpentry (Red): “Nick nack Patty wack, give the pig a bone!” Used to run and hit hard on the footy field, but now on a much smaller track. Now much wiser, give the young fella a go!

Sunday 18 September

Race Times

11.00am: Roberts Constructions Family Challenge

12noon:   ECM Livestock Handicap

1.00pm:   Seacliff Sands Steaks

2.00pm:   Surf Electrical Plate

3.00pm:   Victor Chang Cardiac Research Cup, sponsored by Bomaderry JAFL, Beaumont Beef and KV Show.

Form Guide

ECM Livestock (Pink): Two big kahunas and still carrying a fair bit of weight. They have a great trainer to keep them on track! Very experienced with weekly auctions and livestock marketing, great to see their huge support!

Merchants Rural Contracting (Dark Blue): From a long line of breeding in this area, hard to split, knows the track well, they probably built it, still showing strong support and should feel at home!

SBT Kenny (Green):Loves windy conditions! Have you heard about the pig in the brick house? This is where the brick and tiles come from; knows about the sand and soil as well! Comes from solid foundations. Hard to beat!

Pace Family Turkey Farm (Silver): Had a busy Christmas in July but it knows all about monogastrics and manure; looking forward to seeing it run. Also, from a hardworking European background and great family, but sire is a bit rough around the edges. The Sea Eagle could be a distraction. Should set the pace!

Jumping Jelly Beans (Gold): This one is for the kids! Trains with the ducks, goats and chooks, a striking juvenile; put it in your black book.

KV Red Angus (Red): Closely related to the black stable, but a far superior breed. Excellent muscle pattern, fat cover and temperament. Sensational taste! Put Red Angus on the shopping list. Worth a bid!

Barrengarry Baron (Purple): Another Kiwi that likes a “muddy” track! New to town and fitting in well, likes a drink before a race and should be a good financial investment.

Derek Roberts (Light Blue): Our blue pig is not real bright and it might be slow, but our pig’s a real “Derek,” so watch him go!

Be in it to win it!
