Kangaroo Valley Voice

The Voice supports local school

The Valley Voice was pleased to donate $10,000 to Kangaroo Valley Public School recently.

The donation came about when we learned the New South Wales Education Department announced a change in the school curriculum, with a move back to early primary school children learning to read using phonetics.

This change in curriculum meant existing school reading materials would be considered out-of-date, as they do not reflect the new method of teaching. Being a small local school, it would have meant a significant amount of funding would need to be raised to cover the purchase of new school readers for kindergarten and year 1 students – with the school needing to raise these funds themselves within a very short period of time.

After consultation with the new relieving school principal, Jennifer Arnott, and the P&C, The Voice decided a donation of $10,000 would help allow the school to purchase the new readers without having to drain their own resources.

The readers have now been purchased and the school is awaiting their arrival.

Thank you to all our advertisers and supporters who have made this donation possible. We will keep you updated on the progress of the new readers and look forward to some happy learning for our local kids!
