Puppies rescued by Good Samaritans of the Valley

Five Rottweiler puppies were stranded in a car that had been washed down a river during the heavy rains in April. Due to the currently limited access to the Valley, and the time it was going to take for any emergency team to rescue the puppies, Kangaroo Valley local residents sprang into action. They took it upon themselves to carry out the rescue once the river level dropped sufficiently and the risk was deemed acceptable, all things considered. To retrieve the puppies, a rope set-up was created to transport the puppies across the river, using a pet carry cage. The five puppies were found to be happy and well.

It was reported the following day that the flooded car had travelled a further 100m down river. This was not a stable situation at any time during this rescue, with the car originally only marooned on a mud bank mid-river. All involved need to be congratulated for their quick work carried out as good Samaritans of the Valley.

The car has been successfully removed from the creek by the adjoining landowner. This was to prevent pollution to stock water on his and downstream neighbouring properties.Jamie Salkeld
