Ladies’ bowls

The Major/Minor competition saga continued on 22 March. We experienced injury, another Covid-19 close contact and finally finished with the player concerned contracting Covid-19 herself, delaying play yet again. The other scheduled game for the day went ahead with Penny Rose and Sue Shiel against the highly experienced team of Ruth Willdig and Judy Whitton. Penny and Sue put up a valiant effort, allowing the opposition to score big on only two occasions. However, it was enough to allow the opposition to win an otherwise close tussle. Great effort Penny and Sue.

After many unsuccessful attempts to reschedule the other match it was decided that Margaret and Chris would have to forfeit. This allowed the competition to get back on track with the final between Ruth Willdig and Judy Whitton against Marie Russell and Cathy Cole-Clark played on 5 April. Yet another exciting match with everyone taking turns to deliver shots to rival any major championship. Congratulations to the victors Ruth and Judy.

The State Carnival is next on our bowls calendar from 2 to 6 May, at Bomaderry and surrounding clubs. Spectators are always welcome. Good luck to the Berry team, consisting of Ruth Willdig (lead), Irene Dunn (second), Gillian Portener (third) and Jane Haddon (Skip).

We still have a few quiet periods coming up before June, so if any new ladies would like to learn this fun game, contact me on 0448 443 835. It is a great way to get some gentle exercise whilst making new friends. Berry is renowned in the bowls community as being the friendly club, so we would love to hear from you.Deb Folkard
