Youth of the Year

1 Mar 11

Congratulations to Ruben FitzSimons, 17, of Wattamolla, who won the regional final of the NAB Lions Youth of the Year Quest.

n9Ruben is School Captain at Bomaderry High School.

The event was held at Mittagong RSL Club on February 20. Representing Kangaroo Valley in the audience were Ruben's father, Andrew, Margaret and Robin Griffiths and Tony Barnett.

There were three other contestants, Dylan Croudson from Bowral, Samantha Rose from Goulburn and Thomas Pinson from Yass.

All the young people were exceptional and all very high achievers in every area.

In the Public Speaking part of the Quest they answered impromptu questions about "Their thoughts on aging and the aging population in Australia" and "What is Wikileaks and is it friend or foe?"

In their prepared speeches they spoke about

GM crops, modern education not catering for all areas of human creativity and talents, the skills required for effective public speaking and water in our world.

Wattamolla and the Kangaroo Valley Lions Club are proud that our representative, Ruben FitzSimons, won both the public speaking and the overall competition which included his achievements and interview.

The District Final will be in Ulladulla on Saturday March 12 and all are welcome to an enjoyable evening to support Ruben in the next stage of the competition.
