Warning from NSW Fair trading
1 Nov 10
The NSW Department of Fair Trading has embarked on a campaign to target itinerant traders.
The Department is warning the public that these traders approach residents and offer to carry out work for them at a fraction of its normal price.
The campaign that will be aired across the Illawarra and South Coast regions aims to make people aware of the tactics used by these traders such as carrying out work without consent and using bullying to receive payment.
Shoalhaven City Council supports this campaign that advises people what to look out for and who to contact if they suspect they have been approached by itinerant traders.
The Department of Fair Trading suggest to be wary of any person who
· Offers cheap deals for “today only”
· Ask for payment before the work is done
· Offer to escort you to the bank
· Leave before the job is done.
