Variety and technical support in field days
1 Feb 11
Improved water in the catchment and more effective and profitable farming are the aims of the Sustainable Grazing Program, which is currently planning to courses and training to landowners and managers in the Kangaroo Valley.
The Sustainable Grazing Program is an initiative offered by Industry and Investment NSW (formerly Department of Primary Industries) in partnership with the Sydney Catchment Authority.
In early 2011, the Program will be delivering heavily subsidised courses and field days to Kangaroo Valley landholders, providing skills to better assess farm landscapes.
Topics include soil health and fertility, grazing and pasture management as well as weed control and plant identification.
Subsidised soil and pasture quality testing is included in the training.
Once landholders have completed the training programs they qualify to apply for funding assistance for various projects.
These include:
· subdivision of paddocks to improve grazing management;
· fencing to keep livestock away from waterways;
· reticulated water supplies to allow for the installation of additional dams or pumps from waterways or troughs.
