The good, the bad and the trivial - KVPS P&C says thanks!!!

1 Oct 11

The folk of the wild, wild west rolled into the Valley on Saturday September 17, for the annual Kangaroo Valley Public School P&C Trivia night.

Spring delivered a perfect, balmy night for this year’s fundraising event, which was lucky for those who came dressed in chaps with bare bottoms!

It was a fantastic night of amazing costumes, tricky questions, lots of laughter, some wonderful entertainment and lots of excellent auction items which were hotly contested.

But I’m not going to use this editorial to tell you about the night! If you were there you’ll know how fantastic it was and if you weren’t then unfortunately you missed out on the Valley event of the year (and you’ll have to come next year!)

No, I’m going to use this space to try and thank all the people who made this night possible.

On the facing page you will see the list of all the businesses and individuals who donated goods and services for our amazing auction packages and prizes. We are eternally grateful to all these people for their support and generosity. Please look at the list and support these businesses whenever you can. Some of these businesses and individuals, particularly those in the Valley, support this event year after year, and we thank them sincerely. We hope that what goes around, comes around!

Now to the more problematic part… we have often hesitated to try and name the people who help put our fundraising events on, for fear of leaving someone out. So very many people help in big and small ways, it’s almost impossible to try and name them.

In fact, when asked earlier this year for photos or information about P&C key achievements and contributors over the years, we had very little to offer. It seems to me, the P&C is so busy working hard to raise money for our school that we have little time to take photos of ourselves or pat ourselves on the back!

But I am going to try this time and therefore will start by apologising to anyone who I have forgotten to mention.

The job of coordinating and pulling Trivia night together usually falls to the president of the P&C. However this year, we were “between” presidents when it came time to set the date and get the Trivia ball rolling.

So Lucy Rodden (P&C vice president) decided to organise and host the first Trivia planning meeting under the belief that everyone knew what needed to be done and we would be able to pull it together in a joint effort without anyone person bearing the load of responsibility.

To a certain extent, that is what happened…like a well-oiled machine, Trivia night kicked into gear, people did what they had to do and it all went off without a hitch. But there is absolutely no way that it would have happened, without the following key group of people who worked long and hard (and in fact, many who have worked long and hard for years) putting on trivia night!

Led by the indomitable Lucy (who did end up bearing the load with graciousness, patience and good humour) the following team of people have been working for months, doing many and varied things to get trivia night up and on this year:

Eileen Rebbeck; Sarah Butler; Julie Mairinger; Kate Britton; Mardi Oke;

Beth Britton; Bianca Murphy;

Helen Gelberman; Cecily Paterson;

Lisa O’Neill; Kate Mather;

Tania Sharman and Jo Stirling.

Thank you all for giving hours and days of your precious time so willingly and thank you to your families who did without you because of it!

We would also like to thank the following people who helped this team get prizes, make it look and sound amazing, worked on the night, pulled it all together and/or cleaned it all up:

Jeremy Butterworth; Mick Delmenico;

Katrina Thomas; John Bacon; Sue Boyle;

Jill Good; Ingrid O’Connor; Andrew Marles; Len Haywood; Denver Rodden;

Jacqualine Lenz; Karen Mennie;

Brad Harvey; Karen Harrison;

Bronwyn Petersen; Ilse O’Reilly;

Margaret Barton; Margo Dryden;

Gary Thomas; Kelvin O’Connor and his fantastic band; Dion Larkins; Tara Larkins; Kerry Townsend; Meagan Upitis;

Andrew Paterson; Deb Cournane;

Melita Hindman;

everyone who baked cakes, slices and biscuits for supper and everyone else who helped in ways big and small who I’ve forgotten to thank.

You know who you are!!!

The funds raised are still being counted but it looks like we have made more than $17,000 which will pay for a large chunk of roof for the outdoor assembly area.

What another amazing achievement!

The children of Kangaroo Valley Public School will benefit for years! So to all the people of the valley and beyond, who came and played Trivia, who bought lucky numbers, who bid on auction items, who donated time, goods and services, who helped pull this event together and clean up afterwards…..THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Yee-hah!!!                                    Sarah Butler

Editor’s note: Just wanted to add that I and many others thoroughly enjoyed the impromptu recitation of The Owl and the Pussycat by Paddy Cleary, of Moss Vale.
