The "Art and soul of Kangaroo Valley"
1 Oct 11
There is an exciting new project underway of importance to Kangaroo Valley and we are asking for your input and participation.
A special book is to be published which is a joint effort by the Kangaroo Valley Tourist Association, its members, the Valley Voice and its team.
The Art and Soul of Kangaroo Valley is to be a quality, full colour, 200 page book showcasing everything that makes Kangaroo Valley different: its produce, music, art, sculpture and photography.
If you know of anyone who produces, grows, processes and/or creates in the Valley, would you please contact Carl Leddy with the information at: at: thevoice@kangaroovalley.nsw.au
and we will produce a book of which we can be rightly proud.
The aim is to have it published by early February 2012, in time for release at the A & H Show where a special attraction for next year will be a “Locavore” display and experience stall designed to entice more visitors to escape to the country and enjoy healthy tasty food while visiting Kangaroo Valley Show, the "Friendly" Show.
Take-away lunches and dinner will be prepared by local food enthusiasts where it is grown and produced.
This has been specially designed for show visitors to enjoy the best local produce.
Australia's esteemed nutritionist Dr Rosemary Stanton has advised on the healthy choices and will be there to answer questions and sign her new book.
The kids might not want to know it's healthy, but the smell of local beef slowly roasting might make it hard to keep them away.
Visitors will be able to buy a kebab of tender beef grown in Kangaroo Valley slow-roasted in front of their eyes; fresh baked flat bread, delicious tabouli using parsley and tomatoes grown in the valley's mineral-rich soil and hummus made from Kangaroo Valley olive oil, chick-peas and garlic donated by local producers.
Add some local yoghurt with strawberries or passionfruit all again from the local area.
All food sold will be grown in the valley.
A local farmer has donated the steer that will be cooked. Valley gardeners and cooks have volunteered their time and produce to put together these meals.
All people and companies donating to this food event will be listed on the display and a paper bag printed and given to each buyer.
All money will go to the Kangaroo Valley A & H Association Inc. to assist it in making the Kangaroo Valley Show, "The Friendly Show", even better than before.
A range of events in the form of demonstrations and food discovery areas will be created to educate, entertain and inspire with livestock and growers including:
A cow which will be milked;
Laying hens;
A young steer will be paraded by a farmer who will answer questions about how the beef on offer is produced;
Local gardeners will share tips about how they grow such great tasting produce with gardening tips and ideas;
Hints on creating delicious nutritious family meals
Local fresh produce will be sold.
Cost of the meal will be $10 per person and available on Friday and Saturday lunch (150 lunches on each day) from 12 pm and Saturday dinner from 5 pm (200 dinners) until sold out.
A vegetarian alternative will be offered.
