"Spooky” performances, kept the weather spirits at bay (nearly)
10 Nov 09
The crowds were up, the weather was generally benign and the friendliness engendered by participants and audiences alike a pleasure to see.
The energy and enthusiasm was palpable.
The variety of performances offered was commendable and the spirit of sharing good times, laughter and enjoyment unquenchable. What a difference a year of determined effort made in the creation and the success of the fourth annual Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival.
The organisers are to be congratulated on casting aside the disappointments of earlier festivals, bedevilled by atrocious weather, in their efficient presentation of a thoroughly enjoyable presentation of a spledid festival that had something for everyone.
More than 1000 people part took part in 2009.
An innovation this year was the establishment of a Poetry competition.
64 entrants had submitted poems for the inaugural KVFF Bush Poetry Competition and 15 finalists read their poems for renowned Bush Poets, Greg North, Russell Hannah and Alan Stone, who judged the competition
The winner of the Best Adult Bush Poem 2009 was Melanie Cevasco of North Nowra for her poem "My Happy Place"
Winner Best Child Bush Poem was Noah Fenn of Gerringong - poem "Lizards".
Best Environmental Adult Poem: John Davis, Kings Point - poem "Yellow Box Tree"
Best Environmental Child Poem; Reuben Bacon, Kangaroo Valley - poem "Outback".
