Partnering with the Kangaroo Valley community

1 Nov 11

September and October have been two months of partnering with different sectors of the local community to both fund raise and celebrate the restoration of the Hampden Bridge.

At the end of the term The Scots College again partnered with the Remexio Partnership and availed the facilities at Glengarry as an operations centre for the Trek for Timor fund raising walk.

Les Mitchell came out to Glengarry just before the boys went home for the October holidays and explained the purpose of the trek and how the local community in Kangaroo Valley is raising funds for the remote district of Remexio in East Timor.

Les took up an offering after his presentation and the boys donated $210 towards the fundraiser.

Dennis Nickell helped to coordinate things at Glengarry and we are proud to be a part of this wonderful aid to the families of Remexio.

On 16 October a large representation of the Kangaroo Valley community joined together to celebrate the completion of the restoration of Hampden Bridge.

Five of the Glengarry boys piped and drummed in procession to start the celebrations and then paraded across the bridge after the townspeople had made their way over to the Pioneer Museum.

There was a colourful array of helium filled balloons lining the streets and everybody enjoyed some speeches and light refreshments at the museum on what would have been a perfect spring day.

Again, it was a privilege for our boys to be involved in this celebration and for The Scots College to identify with the community in the completion of this project.
