Maintenance Work on Hampden Bridge

6 Dec 10

In preparation for the essential maintenance work planned for Hampden Bridge in 2011 - to ensure the bridge’s functionality and heritage value is retained into the future – preliminary maintenance work is scheduled for mid December 2010.
This preliminary work will involve the replacement of two of the bridge’s cross girders, as well as routine maintenance and minor deck repairs in preparation for the busy Christmas holiday period.
The work will be undertaken from Monday, 13 December until Friday, 17 December 2010 from 9.30am until 3pm, weather permitting.
Although there will be some interruptions to traffic during this time, the route remains open to motorists. Light vehicle access across the bridge will be maintained, however, motorists are advised to expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
Vehicles over five tonnes will not be able to cross the bridge between 12midday and 1pm. During this one hour period heavy vehicles will be parked or advised to use Macquarie Pass as an alternative route.
Variable message signs will be in place to advise motorists of the work and changed traffic conditions. Traffic control will also be in place during and motorists are asked to exercise caution and follow reduced speed limits.
The RTA is working hard to minimise the impact of the work on the community and local businesses. If you have particular concerns regarding the times scheduled for the work please contact the RTA’s Project Engineer Bridges, Craig Robinson on 4222 3250.
The RTA is continuing to progress plans for the essential maintenance work in 2011 on Hampden Bridge and is continuing to consult with the local community on these future works. Working Party meetings are being held on the second Tuesday of the month from 3pm to 5pm at the Kangaroo Valley hall. For further information please go to the RTA website.
The RTA appreciates your patience while the maintenance work is underway and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Yours faithfully,
Julian Watson Project Development Manager, Southern Region
