KICKING GOALS FOR KANGAROO VALLEY FOOTPATH…AGAIN!
20 Oct 09
SHOALHAVEN City Deputy Mayor and Acting Works and Finance Committee Chairperson Gareth Ward has announced that the Works and Finance Committee will recommend to Council an additional $30,000 to complete the remaining section of the Kangaroo Valley Footpath Action Group plan.
Cr Ward moved this motion as part of a package of appropriations from the $614,000 Regional Local Community Infrastructure Program.
"The community have been the driver behind the Kangaroo Valley Footpath Action Plan and as their representative for Ward One, I have done all that I can to support this project. Successive Council budgets have delivered funds for this project and I am delighted to be able to announce that the Works and Finance Committee will recommend a further allocation of $30,000," Cr Ward said.
"It goes without saying that the vast majority of work done on this footpath has been completed by diligent and hard working local volunteers. Without the extraordinary effort by our local community, this project would never have occurred.
"On behalf of Council and the community, I thank and commend all those who have invested so much of their own time and effort to make this project, a reality.
"The package of works that I presented to the committee tonight was unanimously adopted. I am therefore hopeful that this motion will be approved by Council when it meets on Thursday week.
"This contribution towards this project is yet another example of this Council's commitment to encouraging healthy living and active communities. The Shoalhaven is continuing to struggle with figures that are higher than average for obesity and particularly childhood obesity.
"Projects such as the Kangaroo Valley Footpath Action plan provide a safe and dedicated opportunity for locals and tourists to be part of our environment and enjoy all that Kangaroo Valley has to offer," Cr Ward concluded.
