KANGAROO VALLEY FLASHING SCHOOL ZONE SIGNS
17 May 10
SHOALHAVEN City Deputy Mayor Gareth Ward has welcomed the long delayed announcement by the RTA that flashing school zone signs will be installed at Kangaroo Valley Public School and called on the community to keep the pressure on the State Government to ensure the lights are installed.
"I congratulate the community for working so hard to achieve this long awaited result. We took up petitions, wrote letters and through community pressure ensured that the voice of common sense was heard," Cr Ward said.
"Over the last three years of this campaign, I simply couldn't grasp why the NSW Government took so much convincing! Fog combined with a busy road and vehicles often unfamiliar with the area was enough for me to support parents, teachers and students in their calls for improved safety at Kangaroo Valley Public School.
"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Kangaroo Valley Public School P&C who worked so hard on this campaign. When I took this matter to Council on their behalf, we were unanimous in our support and I thank Mayor Paul Green and Shoalhaven City Council for their support of the Kangaroo Valley community.
"My thanks also goes to Shadow Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli and Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock who took up my invitation to meet with the Kangaroo Valley P&C and raised the need for flashing school zone signs in Kangaroo Valley in State Parliament.
"I would also like to thank the local media for ensuring that this issue received the coverage it needed to ensure the safety and security of children, staff and parents at Kangaroo Valley Public School.
"It is important that as a community we continue to keep the State Government under pressure to ensure the announcement is followed through and lights are installed as soon as possible," Cr Ward concluded.
