Girls Night In

7 Sep 10

Back on home soil, Miss Universe Australia 2010 Jesinta Campbell today lent her body to raise awareness of women’s cancers – which affects one in seven Australian women* –  at the launch of GIRLS NIGHT IN 2010.

To highlight the need for all women to become more body aware ahead of GIRLS NIGHT IN, Campbell’s body was used as an artistic canvas to draw attention to the areas affected by women’s cancers – including breast, cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulva cancer.

This October, Campbell will join celebrity ambassadors Danielle Spencer, Anna Gare, Charli Delaney, Faustina ‘Fuzzy’ Agolley, Fiona O’Loughlin, Brad Ngata and around 200,000 women across Australia who will host or attend a GIRLS NIGHT IN event. The Cancer Council initiative celebrates the unconditional bond that women share, while raising much needed funds for women’s cancers.

Each year, more than 16,000 women are diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer. One in 23 women will specifically face a battle with a gynealogical cancer in their lifetime, and one in nine will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

GIRLS NIGHT IN 2010 Ambassador, Jesinta Campbell, Miss Universe Australia said “I’m thrilled to be involved in the launch of GIRLS NIGHT IN and help raise awareness of cancers that specifically affect women.”

“Competing in the Miss Universe competition, you work with the most beautiful women in the world.  But we are all the same inside, and it’s so important that we take care of the parts of our body which make us a woman.”

A night with the girls can come in many forms: from dinner parties; chick flick nights; board games; clothes swaps, to pamper nights. No matter what the activity, the main content of the night will be a great deal of talking, laughter and support. But above all, a GIRLS NIGHT IN helps in the fight against women’s cancers.

In 2010 Cancer Council hopes to raise $6 million nationally, with money raised helping fund Cancer Council’s research, prevention, information and support services for women’s cancers.
