Folk Festival full of fun and fandangling finesse

1 Nov 11

As already confirmed by the letters of praise and support on page four, the sixth Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival could easily be regarded as the best yet.

Fine weather helped but the organisers were well prepared and ran a smooth show much appreciated by the increased numbers of participants and spectators enjoying the three days of the event.

Although entries were down a little the quality of work displayed in the finals of the 2011 Poetry competition was remarkable.
The winners were

Adult Winner:
Terry Norwood, Young
‘Spasmodic Throes'
Adult Runner Up: John Davis 'Remembering Marysville'

Junior Winner:
Olivia Clifton 'My Secret Bay'
Junior Runner Up Maggie Leonard In the Bush

Crystal Creek Meadows Award
Theme Travelling Lightly:
Winner: Aaron Strickland 'Our Greatest Mate'
Runner Up: Ella Edwards 'Travelling Light'

Packers Award (as Archibald Packers choice)
Bev Stewart 'Red Crabs are Marching on Christmas Island'

Poetry is acknowledged as a subjective pursuit but we thought that an excellent poem and one engagingly presented by Valley resident Bruce Latham was refreshingly different as a creation of individual talent and imaginative imagery that we wanted to give it a “little more air”.
