Council decides on rezoning application consultation process
1 Sep 10
Shoalhaven City Council will join with independent consultants to hold a drop in session and an open community information meeting to discuss a rezoning proposal for land adjoining Kangaroo Valley village.
Council has received a rezoning proposal from Colys Pty Ltd for up to 135 new houses, a 120 unit seniors living development, including high care facilities, and a 40 apartment tourism complex with conference facilities.
Council is currently considering the merits of the proposal and an independent planning consultant has been appointed to assist Council in undertaking this process.
Two public consultations will take place as part of the assessment of the proposal.
Council will conduct a drop-in community information session with a number of information boards that explain the proposal, including the opportunity to speak with the independent planning consultant, Council staff and the proponents.
The drop-in session were planned to be held on Sunday 29 August 2010 from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Kangaroo Valley Hall.
The community information meeting will then be held on Tuesday 7 September from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Kangaroo Valley Hall.
At this meeting you will be able to hear from the proponent about the project and then discuss it in an open facilitated forum. Comment sheets will also be available at both events for all people to provide a written response in your own time.
All citizens are invited to attend the meetings and following these events, the independent planning consultant will provide Council with an assessment of the rezoning proposal, including the outcomes of the consultation. Council will then consider if it will support the proposal moving to the next stage of rezoning process.
Further enquiries on this matter should be directed to Council's Strategic Planning & Infrastructure Group on (02) 4429 3355.
The Kangaroo Valley Community Association has circularised members as follows.
We have received an email from Gordon Clark at Council relating to public information/meeting on the Colys rezoning proposal.
Gordon has asked us to disseminate the info through KV.
Quote from Gordon:
Two public consultation opportunities are proposed as part of Council's process (to consider the merits of the proposal) -
1. Drop-in information session with a number of information boards that explain the proposal, including the opportunity to speak with the independent planning consultant, Council staff and the proponents.
This will be Sunday 29 th August 2010 from 3 pm to 5 pm at the KV Hall.
2. Public consultation meeting where you will hear from thee proponent about the project and be able to discuss it within an open facilitated forum.
This meeting will be held Tuesday 7th September 2010, from 7 pm to 9 pm at the KV Hall.
Take home comment sheets will also be available at both events for you to provide a written response in your own time.
KVCA note: It is important that every member of this Association attends the Public Meeting - or at least the drop-in session - to have a chance to have their say on the proposal.
You should also know that Council's senior staff have advised us that there is NO OBLIGATION on the proponent (Colys) to build what they say they are going to build, if the zone change goes through!!!
This means that should the zone change get up we will see houses, houses and more houses on this land - no retirement or high care facility (already rejected by State government, anyhow) and some residents have been advised by Nick Colys in his "invitation only" consultation that the tourism complex will not go ahead. This leaves HOUSES.
Be there on 7 September, 7 pm at the Hall and/or 29 August 3 to 5 pm, also at the Hall.
