Community invited to participate in Hampden Bridge working party

1 Oct 10

The consensus reached between the RTA and some of the Kangaroo Valley community at the public meeting on September 20, convened to discuss the Hampden Bridge restoration project was welcomed by the Member for Kiama, Mr Matt Brown.

"We now have a positive working plan and a consultative process to move forward through any issues that arise," Mr Brown said.

Kangaroo Valley residents and business owners have been invited to join a working party to help plan evening closures of the Hampden Bridge in 2011.

The RTA confirms it will be working with the community to finalise its maintenance program for Hampden Bridge.

"The working party will provide the community with a voice so that impacts on residents, businesses, operators and road users can be minimised," Mr Brown said.

The current plan being put forward to deliver the essential work includes:

  • Maintenance work on the bridge under traffic control starting in October.
  • Evening restricted access to Hampden Bridge from 5pm to midnight on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights for two seven week blocks of work, to avoid the Kangaroo Valley Arts Festival, public holidays and school holidays starting in May 2011.
  • Hampden Bridge would remain open at all other times, under traffic control.
  • A proposal for shuttle buses to run during the closures, to be further discussed with the community.
  • No temporary alternative crossing.

It is expected that the first meeting of the working party would be in mid October.

A copy of the presentation from the community meeting on September 20 is also available on the RTA website.
