Combined pensioners close doors and open hearts with $97,000

1 Nov 10

The Nowra branch of the Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association have presented a cheque for a staggering ninety seven thousand dollars to the Mayor to go towards the Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre and linear accelerator.

n14President of the Shoalhaven Branch Mrs Betty Palmer, explained that any excess funds left after a branch closes usually goes back to head office, but in this case it was decided the money should stay in the Shoalhaven and assist local people affected by cancer.

Shoalhaven City Mayor Clr. Paul Green said” This is the kind of gift that keeps giving and it is a most generous and caring donation.

So many Shoalhaven residents will benefit from this offering, and the branch can feel happy in the knowledge that they have made a major difference in people’s lives.”

The goal of reaching 1.5 million for the linear accelerator and the Cancer Care Centre is now within reach thanks to the efforts of the Association whose Nowra branch decided to close due to lack of numbers.

President Grace Solway OAM and Senior Vice President and Treasurer Betty Chamberlain of the Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association of  NSW Inc. travelled from Sydney to witness the presentation.

They support the decision to keep the funds in the Shoalhaven and for them to be used for such a worthy cause.

Clr Green Said,” The Nowra branch may have closed but they will not be forgotten.

They will always be remembered for their generosity and kindness in donating this money and I sincerely thank all of the members.”
