Big plans afoot for The Friendly Inn

1 Sep 10

Within one week of moving in, the new owners of The Friendly Inn have wasted no time in launching a program of rejuvenation and presentation of the historic premises.

An initial program scheduled for the first twelve months is focussing on restoration and presentation of the original timber floors, a refit of the electrical system and fittings, new beer lines, some painting, an all weather sail above the outdoor lounge (near the Bottle Shop) and a new jukebox which are all designed to provide an immediate facelift at a cost of $100,000 and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the "old traditions".

n2General Manager, Michael Davis certainly has a task ahead of him, (tackling the renovations while continuing to trade in all areas) but approaches the project with the calm and expert knowledge garnered from a lifetime career in the hotel and hospitality industries.

Michael has worked in Sydney, the Upper Hunter, Queensland and overseas and is highly regarded by his peers and customers.

He recently received a prestigious industry award (for Hospitality) from the organisation known as Stanford Who's Who of Executives, Professionals and Entrepeneurs, so the the new owners, Brian Rutter and his family have commenced their relationship with the Valley with an excellent choice for "head man".

n3The previous plans submitted for extensions to The Friendly Inn will be set aside for a period and be revisited as the owners and manager familiarise themselves with the needs of the Valley Community.

However the style of the "pub" will focus on a family friendly theme, with childrens meals at half price and a continuation of the popular "live music" entertainment program.

Michael is also planning a series of monthly wine dinners, a return of the "trivia nights" and a commitment to good old fashioned service.

Michael says, "in our eyes the customer comes first always and that is the key for any successful operation, regardless of the type of business".

"Yes, we run a country pub, but that does not mean we do not aspire to the highest of standards, in presentation of quality food, beverages and entertainment, in a comfortable and enjoyable environment".
