A Helipad in your neighbourhood?
1 Dec 10
This is not a joke or a scare tactic, it is the one of the suggested “Permissible” activities in the key Village zone of Kangaroo Valley as proposed by Council’s new LEP.
Council is currently updating its top Planning document, the Local Environment Plan – LEP. The KV Community Association has been studying the Draft of the new Plan with other similar groups city wide.
At this stage it shows some potentially troubling things for Kangaroo Valley and the greater Shoalhaven too.
Council has chosen to widen the allowable uses of particular zones beyond State government requirements.
Council’s Plan will have great impact on -
Your Village –
Buildings up to 11 metres high (3 storeys) Dual occupancy
Blocks of residential flats to 3 storeys
Helipads
Village environs –
“Air transport facilities” (full airport and/or heliport)
“Intensive livestock agriculture” (example – feedlots)
“Extractive industries” (mining)
“Offensive storage establishments” (involves “storage of goods which emit a polluting discharge which would have a significant adverse impact in the locality”)
All of this would totally destroy DCP 66 and our lifestyle.
At this stage the combined community groups are in negotiations with the NSW Department of Planning to seek their support for reductions to the permissible uses the avoid the madness of the above proposals.
Around next Jan-Feb the updated Draft LEP 2009 will go on public exhibition for community input. This document is HUGE – it is beyond any one person or group to respond to all the issues it raises. Council will write to all landowners to advise the exhibition period dates and will run drop-in information sessions in all areas.
Then it will be up to all residents to respond with their concerns. Consider your new zone; refer to the permissible uses for that zone; is your neighbour’s zone the same as yours; write to Council about any concerns you have and request your letter be copied to all Councillors; copy your letter to the Dept of Planning , Wollongong and to your local member of State Parliament or you could have a helipad next door. Don’t rely on others to write.
(It would help KV Community Association if you also copied your letter to us – PO Box 6089 KV – as then we know which issues are the major concern of residents and which to fight for.)
