11th Annual Wattamolla Picnic

2 Feb 10

Wattamolla Community Picnic

More than 100 residents and guests gathered on Australia Day to celebrate our good fortune in living in such a magic area.

WattamollaPicnic

Now in its 11th year, this annual event is held in the garden of the old Wattamolla School House. Wonderful food and wine was shared and the ‘Produce Table’ was groaning with locally grown delights.

A number of former residents were welcomed back and new comers introduced.

The ‘Community Forum’ covered a number of topics:

Greg Thompson gave an update on the activities and plans of the Brogers Creek Landcare [last Saturday of the month].

John Walker was congratulated on an amazing 60 year contribution to the management of the Kangaroo Valley Show.

Ted Myers passing and his wonderful participation in a range of community activities was noted. A working bee/tree planting in his honour is being planned.

Joan Bray brought us up to date with work on a planned publication on the history of Wattamolla/Woodhill/Brogers Creek. Joan is seeking a working party of  6-8 who will work with her to flesh out the already considerable information  assembled. We hope to launch this volume at our picnic in 12 months.

Clean Up Australia will once again be operating over the first weekend in March. SCC is assisting with provision of two large bins; one for steel and one for general rubbish.

The 5th Australasian Stone Skipping Championship attracted a record number of entrants. ‘Style and Grace’ was richly rewarded when Mr Richard Podmore was awarded first place.

Mention of the imminent Kangaroo Valley Show got ‘Team Wattamolla’ moving and a general challenge was issued to other corners of KV to get organized.

Our champion Open Lady Haystackers, Tug-of-war team members and Iron Person participants are all looking forward to keen competition.
