RTA Hampden Bridge Closure consultation meeting

29 Jun 2010

The RTA (Roads and Traffic Authority) has called a public meeting to discuss the schedule of repairs to Hampden Bridge on:

The repair work is extensive and necessary given the heavy loads the bridge is carrying, ie. The work must be done for safety reasons.

The RTA has proposed closing the bridge 8 hours during 3-5 days a week for 4-6 months, without providing an alternative river crossing while the bridge is closed.

  • Will you be able to get to and from work, will your business be able to operate?
  • Will your children be able to get to and from school or pre school?
  • What happens if your children become ill, day or night?
  • Will you be able to shop in the village for food, petrol, medical supplies etc when needed?
  • Will your business be able to operate?
  • Will you be able to participate in volunteering, family and social activities?

The RTA's key decision makers on this project will be at the public meeting. Come along to ensure your questions are considered and answered

RAG (Moss Vale Road Action Group) believes that:

Day time closures would be devastating for the social and economic life of the KV Community

Up to 70% of bridge work can and should be done through off site prefabrication during the day

The 30% that requires closure should be done at night (10 pm to 6 am)

There must be capacity for emergency access across the river during any bridge closure
