Register now for free regional event workshop

26 Oct 2010

Matt Brown MP, Member for Kiama, today called on local event organisers to register for one of 50 free places at NSW Government funded Regional Event Development Workshops in Kiama on 26 October.

“The workshop will provide practical advice and assistance from event industry experts, with 12 workshops being organised across the State between August and November,” Mr Brown said.

“The workshop program is backed by a $120,000 investment by the NSW Government to give support to new events and to help grow existing regional events.

“The NSW Government’s $120,000 investment in regional events is one of a number of commitments delivered following the NSW Government’s Job Summit last year.

“Regional events provide economic benefit to regional communities and economies, and this is a great opportunity for local organisers of new and existing events to register for one of 50 free workshop places,” Mr Brown said.

“The workshops will help organisers create and develop sustainable regional events that attract visitors and generate tourism dollars for local communities.

“The success of major regional events like the Parkes Elvis Festival and the Deni Ute Muster demonstrates the value of these events to regional communities,” Mr Brown said.

Minister for Tourism Jodi McKay said the Regional Events Development Workshops are expected to generate a number of new regional events.

“We’re aiming to tap further into the unique local flavours of regional NSW to help organisers develop their ideas for successful events.

“We’re also aiming to help existing events become eligible to apply for marketing assistance under the NSW Government’s Regional Flagship Events Program.

“The Regional Flagship Events program helps promote events that have the potential to draw visitors to regional NSW by showcasing the regions’ unique attractions.

Ms McKay said assistance available under the Regional Flagship Events program for promoting and marketing events to a wider audience ranges from $10,000 for one year to $20,000 per year for three consecutive years.

“Since this program began, more than $4.4 million has been provided to support 197 separate events in regional NSW,” Ms McKay said.
