Mayor welcomes newcomers to city

Welcome to the City is an event that will embrace new citizens and encourages them to join with the community of the Shoalhaven. The event will showcase the many and varied community and sporting associations open to these new citizens and offers an opportunity for these valued groups and organisations to gain new members, clients/patrons and players.
Associations involved in the Welcome to the City include: major sporting associations, cultural groups, volunteer organisations, education and training, and community services groups. They will be at the Welcome Event to provide information on their activities, and details on how to become part of their activities or how to access their services.
“This event is to introduce the Shoalhaven community to new residents, our newest citizens,” said Clr Green. “I am excited to see great enthusiasm from the groups involved. This is the real Shoalhaven. The people behind the scenes, the SES who help out in an emergency, the sporting clubs developing our youth, cultural organisations who continue to nurture the City, and of course the volunteer organisations who work tirelessly to help create stronger and more vibrant communities.
“Being part of a club, group or organisation is a great way to meet new people and get involved with your local community. I really encourage new citizens to come to the Welcome to the City event.”
Welcome to the City will be held on Friday 25 February 2011 at the Shoalhaven Turf Club, Albatross Road Nowra. Gates open at 4pm and entry is free. Food and drink will be available along with children’s activities and entertainment.
