Kangaroo Valley Sewerage Scheme Alterations on Public Exhibition
24 Nov 2010 - 03 Dec 2010
Shoalhaven City Council has undertaken a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) on an alternative site for a proposed Water Reclamation Facility (WRF), reclaimed water storage and irrigation system as part of the Kangaroo Valley Sewerage Scheme.
The document is now on public exhibition until 3 December 2010 and can be viewed at the Kangaroo Valley Post Office or at Council’s Administrative Centres in Nowra and Ulladulla.
Council will receive written submissions on the Scheme alterations from interested parties up until close of business on Friday 17 December 2010.
An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was prepared for the Scheme in 2008 and was based on a treatment facility and irrigation on a property in Upper Kangaroo River Road. Agreement was not able to be reached between Council and the land owner which necessitated renewed negotiations with an alternative land owner, who has supported the scheme.
The new site is off Moss Vale Road to the east of the Village.
The Scheme still comprises the same facilities as investigated in the EIS but the proposed relocation of the WRF, reclaimed water storage and irrigation area required site specific supplementary studies to be undertaken.
“Much of the original work done for the EIS was also applicable for the current proposal so a complete re-work was not necessary”, Ms Krogh said.
The REF was completed on behalf of Council by consultant GHD, who also undertook the original EIS.
The Scheme relies heavily on funding sources from Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) and the NSW Office of Water. A condition of the SCA funding requires Council to complete the Scheme by June 2012.
“Council is looking at all options available to expedite the Scheme as quickly as possible to ensure the SCA funding source”, Ms Krogh said, “we are aiming to have the Scheme approved by the end of February 2011 and commence the tendering process soon after”.
