Hot country at Riversdale
15 Jan 2011
Pull on those cowboy boots and bring the family to this eclectic, quirky country experience at Riversdale –a beautiful property on the Shoalhaven River which is part of the late artist Arthur Boyd’s legacy to the Australian people, 2.5 hours from Sydney.
Featuring some of country music’s biggest acts, there will be nothing short of a great time at ‘Hot Country’ on Saturday 15 January 2011.
Top Independent country star Felicity Urquhart, winner of three Golden Guitars, three CMMA Indie Entertainer of the Year Awards, and two Australian Country Music People’s Choice Awards, will not only perform on the day but also run a songwriting workshop for all ages.
Felicity’s mix of pop and country is a complete crowd pleaser, with her latest single Girl in the Mall, co-written with Mark Seymour (of Hunters and Collectors fame) was nominated for the 2010 CMMA (Country Music Association of Australia) Song of the Year (which she later won).
Another act not to be missed is Wagons – a combination of grand rock and dark country mixed with classic pop and served with a dose of Vegas, led by Henry Wagon.
You may have seen them on Spicks and Specks or RockWiz, or maybe you’ve heard that they are the hottest musical act going around Sydney and Melbourne, so this is your chance to see Wagons for yourself.
Enjoy the Deadly Award-winning Stiff Gins, one of Australia’s best known and most loved Indigenous acts.
Stiff Gins combine their stunning harmonies and wicked humour to transport you to a world of joy, spirit and song.
To complete the musical feast is Neil Murray’s blend of country and folk.
Murray first appeared in the early eighties as a founding member of the groundbreaking Warumpi Band, which over three albums (Big Name, No Blankets, Go Bush, Too Much Humbug) and twenty years of performing helped to make contemporary indigenous music heard in mainstream Australia and yielded such classic songs as My Island Home, and Blackfella Whitefella.
As if the music was not enough, the beautiful Riversdale Grounds will feature a raft of fun activities for all ages.
The Wicks Family, national whip-cracking champions from Gunnedah will be showing their expert skills (on unicycles!); Heidi Hillier and her Rodeo Show will help you learn to throw a lasso.
There will also be Ukulele lessons for all ages, Felicity Urquhart’s songwriting workshops and art workshops for the kids.
Bring a picnic or buy refreshments on the day.
