Final Planned Bridge Closure
13 Sep 2011
The final planned closure of Hampden Bridge did not go ahead on Thursday 08 September 2011 due to wet weather.
A liquid bitumen seal was due to be applied to the new bridge deck. If the seal was applied during rain, or affected by rain immediately after being applied, there would be a risk of it being washed into the Kangaroo River and of the seal being too weak to protect the bridge surface.
Rather than risk this, the work has been rescheduled to between 6pm and 8pm next Tuesday 13 September 2011. Hampden Bridge will be closed for this two hour period (only), which will be the final closure of the restoration project. The RTA apologises for any inconvenience caused by this final additional closure.
The community shuttle bus service, temporary pedestrian access and parking arrangements will also be available during this two-hour closure.
The RTA apologises for any inconvenience caused by this change at short notice.
Next week I will provide further details about the repainting and other finalisation work, as well as the planned community celebration.
