Facebook Forum for Young People
03 Aug 2011 - 17 Aug 2011
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward is encouraging high school students and other young people across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven to visit the NSW Youth Advisory Council’s Facebook page and have their say on how the NSW Government should prioritise funding for youth programs.
"This Facebook forum gives young people a voice and the opportunity to have their say on what is a well known social networking site," Mr Ward said.
The initiative is part of the NSW Government’s review of the Better Futures program to ensure that valuable funding grants meet the needs of the state’s children and young people.
The Facebook forum is one of a variety of consultations, including public forums and face to face meetings with youth and youth organisations, happening across the state.
"People aged between 13 to 25 are encouraged to write on the Youth Advisory Council Facebook page between 3 and 17 August with regard to the projects, programs and services they want to see supported across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven," Mr Ward said.
"The NSW Government is committed to fostering genuine dialogue with the young people that we represent in Parliament.
"This is a great opportunity for local youth to tell us how they participate in our community, what their needs are and how the NSW Government can help them achieve their goals.
"I encourage all local youth organisations to take the time to visit the page and ensure that their views are heard," Mr Ward said.
