All-Beethoven on an early piano

Saturday 1 May, 3pm

Sunday 2 May, 11am

May arts

Fortepianists Geoffrey Lancaster and Alan Hicks will be coming from the Australian National University in Canberra to play an all-Beethoven program on an original 1819 Graf piano.

The program will include the Moonlight Sonata and the four-hand version of the Symphony No 3 ‘Eroica’.

They will perform the program twice in the home of Denise and John Wright.

This will be the first time an early piano has been heard in Kangaroo Valley and the first all-Beethoven program.

Chamber orchestra premiere

Sunday 2 May, 3pm

The second event is the appearance of a brand new string chamber orchestra hailing from Sydney.

Called the Lurline Chamber Orchestra, it was established in 2009 to bring live music to more people, especially outside the inner city.

The orchestra brings together musicians from other orchestras, chamber and free-lance players as well as rising talent, and is performing in outer Sydney suburbs and regional centres.

It is the brainchild of Maria and Angela Lindsay, both established performers.

Their Kangaroo Valley performance will include the gorgeous Elgar Serenade and the world premiere of the Lindsays’ arrangement of Dvorak’s String quintet in G minor.

Tommy Tycho’s Violin Concerto will also receive its world premiere.

Booking information will appear in the March Voice. Members of Kangaroo Valley Arts Festival Inc will have a priority booking period.
