September 2011 - Kangaroo Valley Golf Club

Although on a number of Saturdays we went very close to it, Saturday 23rd July was our first washout for the year, let’s hope it is the last.

The following Saturday 30 July, although foggy and cold, was a lot better than the week before.

We could play our July Medal and Medal of Medals round in reasonable golfing conditions. Mike Hinton, with his nett score of 69 had a very comfortable win to take out the Medal but as he had not won a Medal in 2010/11 he was not eligible for the Medal of Medals.

This was won by the second placed player, Gordon Thomson, who had a nett 73 and Ron Bower was placed third with his nett 74.

Sheila Young won the Stableford Competition on 6th August with  a respectable score of 38 beating Peter Dumbrell into second spot with his 37 points.

They were well ahead of the field as Ron Bower’s score of 34 points gave him third place on a countback.

Saturday 13th August was our Monthly Par competition and one of the few days this winter that we didn’t have to tee off in fog. John Innes made the most of it with a great score of +6, 4 strokes ahead of the next three players with their +2 score.

Joan Edwards was second, on a countback, beating John Rose who took third spot also on a countback.

Saturday 20 August was anotherwet Saturday, with heavy rain at times, which made the conditions hard going for the Stableford competition.

It was also the day of our AGM and presentation of trophies and a BBQ lunch, kindly supplied by the Resort, sandwiched (couldn’t resist the pun) the morning round and the Meeting.

The outgoing Committee was thanked for their efforts over the 2010/11 season and were re-elected for 2011/12 season.

The Eclectic Trophy was won by Ray Michelsons and the handicap  Match Play trophy by David Cochrane.

A special “Hole in One” trophy was awarded Mike Hinton was his great effort of being the first person, to our knowledge, of holing out with one shot on the 190 metres, Par 3, 14th hole and if that wasn’t enough it was on Saturday the 10/10/2010.

The morning Stableford Competition was again played on a really wet course with heavy rain showers during the morning and only a few courageous souls, I wasn’t one of them, ventured out to play.

Steve Atkins and Bill Clemens managed respectable scores of 35 points with Steve winning on a countback.

Shelia Young was third with 31 points.

Until next time Seventy Plus
