October 2011 - Kangaroo Valley Amateur Fishing Club

Our safari on the weekend of 9 September was held at Bendalong.

After a great meal on Friday night and celebrating Chuck’s birthday with a very nice chocolate cake, most  turned in early as we were competing in the “Jack Sharkey Memorial Shield” the next day.

The start time was 7 am, weigh in was 1pm.

The weather was not good - cold, windy and rough seas.

Three boats ventured out but Harold was the only one to catch a “ keeper”, a leather jacket.  Fortunately, the boys Ben and Mark caught some Mullet in the estuary on Friday afternoon that we could enter in the competition.

Our competitors, members of the local Manyana Fishing Club, thought better and did not take any boats out.

They fished from the rocks instead and managed to catch more fish than we did, so we again came home without the trophy.

Sunday morning we got up early, cleaned up and took two boats to Basin View.

Eight of us fished the lake for about four hours and the only excitement was as we pulled the boats out of the water when a Fisheries Inspector wanted to examine out catch to ensure none were undersized.

He lost interest when told we did not even catch a “scale”.

We have booked 73 Haiser Road, Greenwell Point for our next safari, to be held from Friday 25 November until Monday 28 November.

Note that you can stay Sunday night and get an extra day fishing for the same normal weekend safari price.

Numbers are limited so please contact one of our committee members to book. No booking, no bed.

Let’s hope that the weather will be better and the fish are biting.

Remember we have available for sale:  Club shirts, $20, caps $10 and badges $5.
